Best Time to Visit
Late June through September for hiking and lake colour. September brings fewer visitors and larch season in late month. Winter suits skiing, frozen waterfalls and quiet towns, with shorter days and winter driving conditions.

Five days covers Banff, Lake Louise and a Jasper overnight. Seven to eight days lets you slow down and add hikes rather than only viewpoints.

Mountain weather changes quickly and snow is possible at elevation in any month. Summer days are warm; mornings and evenings stay cool.
Safety
This is bear country. Carry bear spray where recommended, make noise on trails, keep food secured and give all wildlife a wide margin. Weather and elevation deserve more respect than distance on a map suggests.
