The 230 km between Lake Louise and Jasper is the point of this trip, not the transfer between two towns. Treated as a driving day with stops, it becomes the most memorable part of a Rockies itinerary.

- Two or three nights in Banff first, to see the lakes without rushing
- One full day for the Icefields Parkway, leaving early
- Two nights in Jasper, with time for Maligne Lake or a valley hike
- Return via the Parkway or continue to Edmonton for an open-jaw flight
