Day 1
Arrive at Keflavík, night in Reykjavík
Morning
Land, collect your rental car and drive 45 minutes into Reykjavík.
Afternoon
Walk the old harbour and Laugavegur; buy any groceries you'll want on the road.
Evening
Dinner in the city — your best restaurant choice of the week.

Day 2
Golden Circle
Morning
Þingvellir National Park, walking between the tectonic plates.

Geysir geothermal area, then Gullfoss.
Evening
Continue to a South Coast base near Hella or Hvolsvöllur.

Lunch at Geysir; dinner at your guesthouse — rural options are limited.

South Iceland, near the Ring Road.
Transportation

Day 3
Waterfalls and the black-sand coast
Morning
Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, early to beat the coaches.
Afternoon
Reynisfjara black-sand beach and Dyrhólaey viewpoint.
Evening
Overnight in or near Vík.

Vík has a small cluster of restaurants; book ahead in summer.

Around 2.5 hours of driving with stops.

Day 4
Glaciers and Jökulsárlón
Morning
Drive east across the Skeiðarársandur plain toward Skaftafell.
Afternoon
Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and Diamond Beach opposite.
Evening
Overnight near Höfn.
Where to eat
Höfn is known for langoustine; book if you're arriving late.
Where to stay
Höfn or the surrounding area.
Transportation
About 3.5 hours of driving — today's longest.

Jökulsárlón sits on the Ring Road southeast of Skaftafell, with Diamond Beach across the road.
Helpful tipLeave an hour spare at the lagoon; it deserves more time than photos suggest.
Day 5
West along the coast
Morning
Optional glacier walk or boat tour, booked in advance.
Afternoon
Retrace the coast west, stopping at Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon if conditions allow.
Evening
Overnight near Vík or Hvolsvöllur.

Roadside cafés are sparse — carry snacks.

South Coast.
Transportation
Around 3 hours of driving.

Þórsmörk valley or Reykjadalur, then Reykjavík

A valley walk or the hot-spring hike at Reykjadalur.

Return to Reykjavík, stopping at Kerið crater or the Hveragerði geothermal area.

Last dinner in the city; repack for departure.
